This is not an intense program — 4GB of RAM is quite minimal and any basic computer should be able to run this program smoothly.
The basic layout of this program is extremely simple. You should not get confused. Furthermore, the main editing screen is simple and split into three main panes. The left pane contains image presets — it is split into categories and provides thumbnails of the different effects. In the center is an image preview — this can be split into different views including a before and after preview. The right pane contains the basic image editing tools. That is essentially it — the workspace is uncluttered, and you can easily find and use the different tools.
The software also looks fantastic and has a clean, modern design. For the most part, this program is easy to use. It soon became apparent, however, that there is a Nik Collection button that allows you to access each of the Nik Collection plugins.
Concerning performance, the program works OK. After that, the HDR plugin itself appears to operate quickly and without delay. There is also a history tab that shows each change you have made to the image. You can quickly undo changes by clicking on previous versions — this means your HDR images are essentially non-destructible. The initial folder hierarchy and file management process is always completed using this parent program.
To create an HDR image, you must do the following: 1. You can dictate what type of film to mimic, apply colour filters, vignetting , grain, and other basic adjustments.
There is also a variety of black and white edits to use as a starting point, with different levels of exposure and contrast. The best thing about this tool is that it makes the process user-friendly and then allows you to make adjustments on the new HDR image. This is because the HDR tool uses multiple photos, rather than one selected image to work on.
To access this collection, select your bracketed images to work with. The final photo will now be saved in your computer folders, but will NOT be automatically imported into Lightroom. If you want to do any further adjustments in Lightroom, you can simply import that photo and continue adjusting.
The Dfine collection helps reduce noise and can be fully automated or manually controlled. This is ideal for underexposed images that would otherwise be full of grain in the shadows!
Essentially, they are Google filters for photos. For example, in case you apply a filter but find that the foliage has become too orange. You can then apply a control point in the area of the foliage and lower the effect of the filter over that area so that it retains its green colour. Although many HDR photos involve multiple exposures, sometimes you might want that HDR look but only have one image to work with.
